Coastal GA Saltwater Fishing Report
Fall Brings good Fishing to the Georgia Coast in 2010!
This is my favorite time of year along with many, many other
anglers. The fishing is kicking into high gear all along the
GA coast. From the inshore rivers to the offshore reefs and
the Gulf Stream, it's on!
Inshore:
Trout and Redfishing is at its best along our coast right now.
Some of the best trout fishing many of us have seen in a while.
We have all found the fishing to be stellar on the flats for
Redfish and nice catches of speckled trout are being reported
in most coastal areas in GA. Catches of over 30 keeper size
trout and limits of redfish are common reports so far this fall
season..
Inshore fish are biting artificial and live shrimp inshore
right now and the entire fishery is absolutely wide open in
full swing. Redfish are biting on nearly every shell point in
GA and trout are nearly the same. The high water bite fishing
over shells has been incredible for both species. A small cold
snap could really send the fishing into overdrive once the fish
acclimate to the temperature drop and that doesn't take long
at all.
We have been targeting shell beds, current pushed banks and
rips/points for our personal best results per usual. Popping
corks and stik corks are producing fish in big numbers as well
as fishing on the bottom in some cases.
Nearshore:
Bull Reds are keeping fishing guides busy and rods bent double
along the GA coast. The Reds caught this Fall are of stellar
size in many locales. We are personally boating bull reds over
40 pounds on a regular basis. Mullet chunks seem to be the bait
of choice for the best bull redfish bite. They are choosing
mullet chunks over live menhaden on the last few trips we have
taken.
Offshore:
Catches of Sea Bass, over sized Grey Trigger Fish, Grouper,
Snappers of all kinds, Sheepshead, Spadefish and several other
species are biting right on schedule on our artificial reef
and live bottom areas here on the GA coast. A huge variety of
great eating bottom fish are munching right now. The best bite
has been in the 36-40 mile offshore range in 90-100 ft. of water.
The towers are good right now for pelagics as well.
Blackfin Tuna are in full force at the curve with some Wahoo
and Fins mixed in for any of you who would like to make the
run. A local St. Simons Guide caught 14 Blackfin and others
forementioned in short order very recently.
Fall and early Winter is the prime season to be geared up and
be ready for just about anything as the season presses on and
the fishing gets better with falling water temperatures.
Be safe on the water and tight lines to all!
I aprreciate the
support of the Marina and it's Members to keep the HBBC, the
web page and all other dock activities going that are related
to our way of living here at Hickory Bluff. Many thanks to HBBC
and Tilly Williams. We are all fortunate to have such a nice
facility at our fingertips.
May the water be
calm and your coolers be full!
